Chapter 497: Talent Extraction - 2
By now, the whole chamber was empty as the surviving Kobolts escaped through the tunnels. However, Leo did notice that a few Kobolts had only observed the battle the entire time. When the others started fleeing, they gave Leo one last glance, as if memorising his face, before running away.
If Leo wanted, he could have stopped some of those Kobolts, but others would likely have escaped anyway, so he allowed every scout to leave.
He wanted to see what else these Kobolts were capable of because, so far, their uniformly ordinary bloodline wasn’t a threatening sign at all.
As for the two mortal bloodline Kobolts, even those didn’t seem particularly impressive.
He left those matters for the future and focused on the task at hand.
He quickly sorted through the beast cores, and the haul was as follows.
Low 1-star Kobolt Beastcore - Ordinary Bloodline × 19
Low to Peak 1-star Ashfang Kobolt Warriors and Archers Beastcore - Ordinary Bloodline × 72
High 1-star to Low 2-star Ashfang Kobolt Shaman Beastcore [Fire] - Ordinary Bloodline × 7
Mid 2-star Ashfang Kobolt Shaman Beastcore [Earth] - Mortal Bloodline × 1
High 2-star Ashfang Kobolt Tunnel Captain Beastcore [Earth] - Mortal Bloodline × 1
Out of those, Leo decided to toss the 19 normal Kobolt Beastcores to Zelut for food.
Then he directly used the 72 beast cores from the Ashfang Kobolt warriors and archers, assimilating them into a randomly chosen Warrior Beastcore.
Ding!
>Ordinary Bloodline: 50% -> 51% -> 52% -> 52% -> 53%... -> 99% -> 100%
Ding!
>Mortal bloodline: 1% -> 2%
Ashfang Kobolt Warrior Beastcore (Mid 2-star) - Mortal Bloodline [Intelligence - Juvinile]
>Note: The intelligence has been reset to Juvenile, but the beast’s dormant learning potential has been enhanced, and it will possess a high learning speed if resurrected.
Leo raised his brow in interest.
System, what if I use this beastcore to enhance a live tamed Kobolt? Leo asked, half-expecting the system to remain silent as always.
Thankfully, it answered.
Ding!
>If an intelligent beastcore is assimilated into an unintelligent living beast of the same kind, unexpected surprises may occur. Surprises might include the birth of a new talent or a highly intelligent beast.
Now that was a surprise for Leo. The more time passed, the more he wanted to tame a Kobolt. Unfortunately, he was currently left with very limited soul power to tame beasts.
As things stood, he could tame a single beast at his own strength—or two weaker beasts—because, after learning [Spiritual Sense]—a soul-related ability, and his overall strength increase over time—his taming slots have slightly enhanced.
"Shit, I want to tame a wyvern and take Lily on a long flying ride..." he muttered. "Looks like I’ve got to take a Kobolt and keep it domesticated until I can tame it. Or maybe I should wait until the end of the realm exploration. Who knows, some surprises might happen."
As he spoke, he picked up the 7 Fire-affinity Kobolt Shaman beastcores and examined them one by one.
The reason he thought that way was that if he happened to come across a Wyvern, it might be no less than a 4-star creature. If he were unlucky lucky, he might even encounter the main 5-star Wyvern and have to flee for his life.
"I cannot even be sure those Wyverns can be tamed..." he muttered, rolling the 7 beastcores between his palms. "Any beast above Juvenile intelligence is untamable by normal methods, and even Juveniles are very difficult to tame. And even if I were to find an unintelligent Wyvern, their pride would never allow them to submit easily. They would rather die than be tamed."
He also realised why Bigfoot wasn’t getting tamed so easily. It might already be on the verge of breaking into the Adolescent stage.
"Heh, it’s like Juveniles are kids who can be swayed with a piece of candy. No wonder such beasts are still tameable."
He immediately shook his head and finally focused on what he was supposed to be doing.
"Let’s begin."
With that, he started extracting talents from each beast core one by one.
Ashfang Kobolt Shaman (High 1-star) - Ordinary Bloodline (20%) [Intelligence - Juvenile]
Ding!
>Talent extraction failed.
>Skill [Fireball] has been extracted.
"Eh? Even failing in 50% chance?" Leo grimaced. What kind of luck was that?
Ashfang Kobolt Shaman (High 1-star) - Ordinary Bloodline (26%) [Intelligence - Juvenile]
Ding!
>Talent extraction failed.
>Skill [Fireball] has been extracted.
Ashfang Kobolt Shaman (Peak 1-star) - Ordinary Bloodline (38%) [Intelligence - Juvinile]
Ding!
>Talent extraction failed.
>Skill [Fireball] has been extracted.
Leo’s expression remained blank after three consecutive failures. He couldn’t even laugh at his luck because, in the end, it was his own luck, and who knew—mocking it might somehow make it even worse.
Thankfully, the next attempt produced a good result.
Ashfang Kobolt Shaman (Peak 1-star) - Ordinary Bloodline (39%) [Intelligence - Adolescent]
Ding!
>Talent—[Ashfire Shaman] - 1 star, has been successfully extracted!
- Grants affinity with fire and volcanic energies.
The user can generate and manipulate flames, ignite combustible materials, and infuse fire essence into attacks.
Fire techniques become more stable and consume less mana when near volcanic terrain.
"Finally! My first talent!"
Leo immediately forgot the previous failures and eagerly read through the description.
"Nice!"
System, is it true that I can bestow this talent on myself and people connected to me through soul bonds? What about the slaves? And how many talents can a single individual hold?
Leo asked in his mind. No matter how excited he was, he couldn’t risk speaking to the system aloud. The last thing he wanted was for some professor lurking in the shadows to become suspicious.
>The host’s talent can bestow talents and skills upon his soul and other souls connected to it freely.
>No. The Host’s talent and capabilities are incapable of bestowing talents and skills upon equipment-bonded slaves yet.
Leo felt somewhat disappointed by that answer. If equipment-bonded slaves could receive talents, then the gnomes and future slaves in his territory would have become a truly formidable force within his territory.
But there was nothing he could do about it.
Then he noticed something.
Hm? What about the last question? How many talents can an individual possess? Is there an upper limit?
Leo asked again, but the system remained silent.
"Tsk!"
Leo clicked his tongue sharply in annoyance, the frustration from his earlier failures mixing with irritation at the system’s silence.
The system always stayed silent whenever important information was involved.
Wait. Leo suddenly realised.
