Chapter 1087 - 1068: Countermeasures (Part 2)
"I will do my best to gather more people for defense and protection. Also, please do your utmost to curb the destruction by the beastmen."
"As for those in the lake... don’t worry."
After finishing his words, Lann’s foot relaxed, and he slid down along the trail of blood left by the beastmen, landing on the pathway of Long Lake Town.
The two elves didn’t say much, naturally heading towards the area already filled with shouts of killing and chaotic screams.
They were here to curb evil.
After jumping off the rooftop, the beastmen roused by the horn began their wanton destruction and slaughter.
The town chief had rung the assembly bell, indeed gathering a large number of townspeople, yet some remained at home.
Long Lake Town is just a little town built on a giant rock in the lake, with only a few hundred people.
According to Bard, it’s a small town where everyone knows everyone.
The beastmen kicked over the fire basins used by the townspeople for warmth or the candlesticks for illumination, spreading the flames.
Despite Long Lake Town being built on water, the wooden structures over the lake could still catch fire.
He had overestimated the level of the town’s guards.
He had already warned the town chief, even using the Yakxi Rune to ignite his greed as a motivation to be vigilant. But the town’s guards...
Just like Lann thought, when the beastmen rushed at them, they were scared as frightened rabbits.
"Move towards the square in front of the town chief’s residence! Quick!"
Lann shouted loudly on the pathway of Long Lake Town.
Many townspeople, like headless chickens, ran without knowing where was safe or dangerous, barely regained some sense upon seeing him and immediately found the right direction.
Lann was experiencing and controlling the group emotions of the townspeople in this area, which was why he could efficiently accomplish mental calmness.
Each minor gesture, each tone control... these accumulated details, when perfectly applied, can play an efficient role.
’Splosh,’ a townsman in simple clothes suddenly emerged from the canal, his wet arm splashing water onto the pathway, and Lann pulled him up.
The waterways in this area have no small bridges or boats as supports, so this man swam across.
His hands and arms bore blood marks scratched from parting floating ice in the water, and the scars had turned purplish with cold; he was trembling all over, mouth slightly open.
Upon seeing this, Lann’s left hand ignited with a small flame with a ’poof.’
The flame seemed to possess a powerful and controllable heat; although just a small ember, the townsman visibly warmed when Lann placed his left hand nearby.
But the townsman, chilled too severely, couldn’t control his neck to turn towards the flame.
"What was the situation from your direction? How many beastmen?"
"Many, many!" he stammered through uncontrollable drool and snot, shivering. "They occupied the town gate! Beastmen with torches everywhere!"
"They also burned my house!"
"Go to the square in front of the town chief’s residence; guards are gathered, distributing weapons. Go there to arm yourself and protect yourself."
The flame in Lann’s hand extinguished silently as he patted the man’s shoulder.
But the man, slightly warmed, was terribly frightened.
"No! Sir! I’ve never learned how to hold a sword! I’ve never even touched one! How can we fight beastmen? They’re ferocious!"
"Beastmen can die too, sir. Holding a weapon for battle, often, even without knowing how to wield, can be enough."
Lann held his shoulder, meeting his gaze.
Somehow, the man trembling from cold gradually calmed in the gaze, as if drawing courage from those feline-like eyes.
"You dared to jump into the lake at this season, sir. You’ve already risked your life."
"Beastmen aren’t scarier than the ice-laden lake water. Now, you should protect that life."
Lann stood up from beside him: "Help those you meet along the way, sir, let them go to the square with you."
The Demon Hunter rubbed the magic ring on his hand, and suddenly, thunder roared over the lake outside Long Lake Town!
Whether elf, human, or beastman, all turned their heads for a moment at the thunder.
The soaked townsman too.
But he found more assurance once seeing Lann seemingly indifferent, turning and jogging off.
From the ring, Lann could feel the Qilin racing fast towards them.
But the arrival of the Ancient Dragon was just timely but couldn’t solve all problems.
Long Lake Town is too cramped; neither population nor building density suits the Qilin’s reckless release of lightning power.
Wearing thunder armor, the steed circled the sluice gates outside Long Lake Town.
And in this circle, over twenty wargs had just torn open the dilapidated gate, ready to enter.
Their wetted fur and the iron bars they bit perfectly conducted the power of thunder.
Ordinarily, with the wargs’ physique, though chilled during their swim in icy waters, they should just shake and eat after landing without much issue.
The townspeople and dwarfs in Long Lake Town are excellent fodder.
Yet when the thunder made them whimper and muscles spasm, over twenty wargs couldn’t maintain even the instinctive dog paddle, sinking straight to the lake bottom.
A few had their paws on the pathway of Long Lake Town.
But the current tightened their muscles suddenly, and the entire wolf stiffened into muscle blocks.
The stress-induced muscle contraction reaction locked itself.
Without making it ashore, they stumbled back into the waterway.
After circling around the sluice gate, the Qilin ran another half circle around the town, arriving at the floating bridge by the main gate.
Without any sign of slowing down.
"Neigh!"
The Qilin squealed, its hooves fluttering over the water, splashing icy water mixed with electric patterns.
Pale mane stood erect with static electricity, its eye like a red crystal showing no emotion, thunder illuminating its body with white light.
All these made its feline head look even more dignified and noble.
With lowered head, riding waves from its speed, the Qilin charged amid a line of beastmen’s terrified cries.
"Boom!" a loud explosion.
The wooden board and boat-supported floating bridge crumbled like a crunchy biscuit before the Ancient Dragon’s robust body.
Beastmen on it fell yelling into the lake.
