Chapter 206: Forced to Stay the Night
Ever since discovering that Lin Mo actually cared about this, Liu Rushuang felt as though she had stumbled upon a new continent. Aside from her beauty, what she had the most of was money.
If spending a little could amuse this kid, then the emotional value was absolutely maxed out. She even started thinking about whether she should follow Yuan Meng’s example and buy a sports car—just to drive around the school. After all, young people these days all loved that sort of thing.
Around three in the afternoon, the sports meet at the university was drawing to an end. There were barely any second- and third-year students left; only a few members of the student union were still maintaining order.
The first-year students, however, were all still around—not only did they have to participate in the sports meet, but they also had the dormitory inspection at night. In other words, they definitely couldn’t go home early.
Only a few events were still in progress on the field. Liu Rushuang and Lin Mo walked side by side along the shaded path outside, watching the scene within.
As they passed by, they drew plenty of curious glances. There was no helping it—Liu Rushuang’s looks were in a league of their own. Not only was she beautiful, but she also carried an unmistakable air of affluence—anyone could tell she was someone well-off.
Although Lin Mo couldn’t quite compare to the Rushuang Empress, he himself had improved a great deal—his whole demeanor had undergone a noticeable transformation.
Part of it was thanks to the Back Straightener, and part of it to Professor Li’s herbal medicine. Both had improved his complexion considerably. But the real change came from his confidence.
Whether it was his nearly five million yuan in savings or his shopping page, those were his sources of confidence—a quiet certainty that he could face anyone calmly.
Two people with striking looks and outstanding presence walking together naturally drew a lot of attention. Some students even recognized Lin Mo.
After all, his rescue of someone not long ago had made him somewhat well-known on campus—he had even been featured on the university website several times.
“Didn’t expect my little brother to be a celebrity on campus, tsk tsk,” Liu Rushuang teased, linking arms with him.
“That’s all because of you. Next time, try dressing a little more casually. When I’m walking around campus by myself, I never get this much attention,” Lin Mo said, clicking his tongue.
That was true enough. Even though his looks had changed, he still counted as a regular person on campus before—never had he drawn such crowds.
“Please, your sister here was born beautiful. I’d look good even wearing a burlap sack,” Liu Rushuang said, rolling her eyes before turning to look at the students on the track. Watching all those young faces full of energy, she sighed softly.
“College really is nice. Back when your cousin and I were in school, we were just as full of life. Time flies—it’s been years since graduation.
I always wanted to go back and visit, but once I started working, things just kept piling up. Now, out of the girls in my dorm, I only keep in touch with your cousin—and that’s just because she works here in Jiangning. Otherwise, we’d hardly ever meet.
The rest scattered after graduation, and with time, the bonds faded. You’re about to graduate too—it’s fine if you don’t want to work at my place. Enjoy this last year while you can.”
Perhaps seeing the youthful energy of the students made the Rushuang Empress feel sentimental. After all, that youthful spirit was something that couldn’t be regained. Even though her skin was as flawless as that of an eighteen-year-old, she couldn’t deny what she felt inside. That gave her a calm maturity that no young girl could imitate.
Soon, they found a bench and sat down. On the field, the first-year students began lining up as the school leaders, including Principal Tang, took the stage.
“I declare the 71st Jiangning University of Science and Technology Track and Field Meet—officially closed!”
With Principal Tang’s announcement, the students erupted in applause—not because his speech was great, but because they knew it meant vacation had begun.
Their first short break since entering college—after military training, the welcome gala, and the sports meet—they were finally free. Naturally, everyone was thrilled.
“Well, that’s the end of the excitement. Let’s go,” Lin Mo said, standing up to head back to his dorm.
Liu Rushuang’s words had stirred him a little. Yes, this was his final year—his last sports meet as a student.
Perhaps his dormmates would also go their separate ways soon, but at least not yet.
Back at Lin Mo’s place, Liu Rushuang sat cross-legged on the sofa, barefoot, eating strawberries with a blissful expression.
“Wait a minute—aren’t you supposed to go home?” Lin Mo asked, surprised.
Liu Rushuang shot him a sideways look. “What, you kicking me out?”
“No, but… it’s the holiday. Aren’t you going home?”
He checked the time—it was already half past five. By now, her company would have closed for the day. Shouldn’t the boss be thinking of heading home or planning a trip? What was she doing hanging around here?
Liu Rushuang said, “My home’s right here.”
Lin Mo blinked. “Huh?”
“I mean, my home’s in Jiangning. Unlike you and Su Su—I can get home anytime. What’s the rush?”
That made sense, he thought. He didn’t know exactly where she lived, but if it was within Jiangning City, it couldn’t be far. Plus, traffic was heavy right now anyway—she might as well stay a bit longer.
8 p.m.
“Ugh, I’m hungry. Make me something to eat!” Liu Rushuang called from the sofa, rubbing her stomach like a starving ghost—fine one moment, ravenous the next.
Lin Mo frowned. “It’s already eight. Aren’t you going home for dinner?”
“My family already ate hours ago! What’s there to eat if I go back now? Come on, cook something!” She kicked him in the back with her foot, pushing insistently.
He scowled. He didn’t want to cook either, but seeing her stubborn expression, he tried to negotiate. “How about ordering takeout? My treat.”
“No way! I can’t stand takeout food. It’s unhygienic. Make chicken for me—hurry up! I want chicken!”
Lin Mo: “…”
He had no choice. Fortunately, there were still some eggs and leftover chicken in the fridge—enough to scrape together a meal.
11:30 p.m.
After finishing dinner, Liu Rushuang elegantly dabbed her lips and sighed with satisfaction, stretching lazily. “Ahh, so full… feels good. Huh? What are you doing?”
Looking up, she saw Lin Mo carrying a blanket out of the bedroom and laying it on the sofa. Then, he lay down himself—clearly prepared.
“What do you think? Unless you plan to leave now?”
“Cough, uh—I’ll, uh, wash the dishes!” she said, laughing awkwardly as she scrambled to clean up.
Only then did Lin Mo realize—she’d never planned on leaving. Who in their right mind took three hours to eat dinner? Chewing every grain of rice forty-nine times?
She’d asked for food at eight; he’d finished cooking by eight-thirty. Yet somehow she dragged it out till now.
It wasn’t like they hadn’t eaten together before—he knew perfectly well how fast she usually ate.
At this hour, she clearly couldn’t go home. So rather than argue, he might as well take the blanket and sleep on the couch.
Meanwhile, in the kitchen, Liu Rushuang’s cheeks were flushed red. She’d stayed on purpose.
What was the point of going home? If she wanted to, she could’ve driven back in minutes. But knowing that Lin Mo would be gone for several days soon, she didn’t want to leave—not tonight, at least.
And though she was decisive in business, when it came to feelings, her face wasn’t that thick-skinned. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have hesitated just because Su He wasn’t around. She’d seized her chance today, and she wasn’t going to waste it.
Just as Lin Mo was sighing in relief that someone else was doing the dishes, there came a sharp crack! from the kitchen.
“Ah! I broke one! Little brother, where’s the broom?”
“In the bathroom!”
Moments later—crash!—another sound of breaking glass. Lin Mo covered his ears and ignored it.
After a long silence, just as he thought it was finally over, someone gently pulled his hand away from his ear.
“Little brother~~”
He looked up to see Liu Rushuang gazing at him pitifully.
“What now? If something broke, just clean it up and toss it. It’s fine.”
It was only a few plates—no big deal. He could always buy more.
“Uh… I poured the leftover food and chicken into the toilet. Now it’s clogged. Is that bad?” she said with an awkward, ingratiating smile.
Lin Mo: “…”
